What is your Time? Chronos or Kairos

In Greek, time has two translations.  One is chronos, which most of the western languages drive its root in words such as chronology, chronicle, chronic…  The word chronos comes from Greek god Chronos; a nasty minor deity, a glutton and a cannibal who gorged himself on his own children.  He was always consuming, never consummated.  The deity of the driven.

The second translation is kairos.  This is time as gift, as opportunity, as season.

In kairos time you ask, not “What time is it?” but “What is this time for?”.

Which time is yours?

Lord’s Work

What do you see when you hear those words?  Pastor, Missionaries?

We have fairly good theology of salvation, grace etc.  But when it comes to theology of work, not too clear.

Martin Luther puts it well:

The maid who sweeps her kitchen is doing the will of God just as much as the monk who prays – not because she may sing a Christian hymn as she sweeps but because God loves clean floors.  The Christian shoemaker does his Christian duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes, because God is interested in good craftsmanship.

Connecting the Future Dots

Steve Jobs’ famous commencement speech quote “you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards…”, it’s very true.  And I believe what will connect the future dots is determined by your Values, Beliefs and Faith.

As for me, my values are Innovation, Compassion, Hard work, Faith, Hope.  I love building products, building businesses and helping others to live a fuller life; whether by building solutions that make a real difference, or by helping people to see their story bit clearer through my stories, or by helping people to avoid the unfruitful path through my mistakes etc.

Do the dots always make sense? Would you always find the dot that you are hoping but yet find a different dot in disguise?

Lately I’ve been wondering what story or legacy will my family aspire to build, generations to generations.  What’s yours?

I care. We care. Upping the ante…

With 3 more days till Christmas, I am upping the ante.   If you’ll partner with me in supporting these projects (http://sittingonmytoilet.com/2010/12/13/christmas-gifts-and-celebration/) to get kids off the streets, equipping them with education, and end the vicious cycle in this generation, I will match dollar for dollar up to $1,000.

We’ve only got 3 more days till Christmas, and I’ve got some money saved up.  Will you do this with me?
