Lord’s Work

What do you see when you hear those words?  Pastor, Missionaries?

We have fairly good theology of salvation, grace etc.  But when it comes to theology of work, not too clear.

Martin Luther puts it well:

The maid who sweeps her kitchen is doing the will of God just as much as the monk who prays – not because she may sing a Christian hymn as she sweeps but because God loves clean floors.  The Christian shoemaker does his Christian duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes, because God is interested in good craftsmanship.

Connecting the Future Dots

Steve Jobs’ famous commencement speech quote “you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards…”, it’s very true.  And I believe what will connect the future dots is determined by your Values, Beliefs and Faith.

As for me, my values are Innovation, Compassion, Hard work, Faith, Hope.  I love building products, building businesses and helping others to live a fuller life; whether by building solutions that make a real difference, or by helping people to see their story bit clearer through my stories, or by helping people to avoid the unfruitful path through my mistakes etc.

Do the dots always make sense? Would you always find the dot that you are hoping but yet find a different dot in disguise?

Lately I’ve been wondering what story or legacy will my family aspire to build, generations to generations.  What’s yours?

Who you work with > What you work on

Over the last three years, it’s becoming more and more clear to me that what projects I ended up working, or what cool product I get to create, are important but not the ultimate thing. When I survey the past jobs I’ve held, what made the waking up in the morning easy and exciting to go to work was the people in my team (some projects certainly sucked).

Being able to work with great team of people who are; committed, passionate, joyful, full of integrity and share the same beliefs is such a blessing. This is something that going forward, I will make sure to build into the requirements of what I build. The structure determines the outcome.
